A Healthy Eating Lifestyle

It is important for a child to have a healthy eating lifestyle and not a so called diet. This lifestyle of eating will allow the child to eat frequently without putting on the weight. If the child skips meals this will lead to binging and overeating which would result in obesity and being overweight. Physical activity is very important for a healthy lifestyle. So regular physical activity during childhood helps avoid the risk of obesity and other health related problems. On the other hand if your child spends most of his or her time in front of a television which will cause unnecessary snacking and no involvement in physical activity are habits that start young die hard and set the stage for an overweight or even obese child.

BREAKFAST: most important meal of the day.

SNACK: choose a healthy snack. 100% fruit snack, granola bar, crackers, peanut butter, whole grain bread. A snack is important to keep a child satisfied between meals to avoid overeating.

LUNCH: very important to eat a lunch to avoid overeating at dinner.

SNACK: fruits, yogurt, nuts

DINNER: choose a meat, fish or poultry.

Find a balance between food and fun. Your child should aim for at least every day a 60 MINUTE window of play time that includes physical activity such as exercising, walking, dance, biking, roller blade, etc..

Choose foods and beverages that are low in added sugars and other calorie sweeteners.
